After a brief hiatus in the fall, The Vital Side will be returning in 2010 with a fresh outlook. We feel an explanation is owed to all of our fans, family and friends who showed much support upon the release of our debut album in the spring. Here goes …
The members of this band have been playing music for a long time, and upon inception of this project we had a vision of what it was to be and where we wanted to take it. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to grow quickly, with the hope of mainstream success. This pressure started to create stress between band members by the fall, as we didn’t feel we were on the quickest path to achieving our ultimate goal. The turmoil became ever present at shows and the tension amongst us started to drive the group apart. We had ultimately lost sight of what should be at the forefront any artistic endeavour; simply, the enjoyment of creating music together. The struggle to succeed ultimately came at the cost of neglecting the process, as we began to invest much thought into the foresight of our goals instead of enjoying the moment at hand. By October we could no longer stand the tension and decided to take a break from the band all together, with no concrete future plans in mind. Despite this great blow to both our momentum and collective investment of hard work, time and money, we felt that no longer could we work within such a stressful and negative environment. The desire to carry on musically thus necessitated a time of recollection and reconsideration. Ultimately, this individual introspection led us each to the discovery that we missed the project and felt our actions and motives for dismissal were rash. During the break we were able to gain new perspective on what “The Vital Side is; not what we first intended it to be”. The heart was still there but the direction of the music just needed some alteration as well as a re-vamped perspective on the future and its goals. This was a great relief to everyone involved as it felt wrong to throw away the hard work and great music the band had already created.
The band now is no longer a chore; the positive energy has been restored and enjoying the music without an arbitrary goal of success has been removed. The new sound remains catchy and singable, but will include more ambiance and feel. The Vital Side has been re-energized and will write, produce and perform its best music to date in the year 2010.
Sincerely,
The Vital Side
